Consecration marks the beginning of a child’s formal religious education. For children who enroll in the Early Childhood Learning Center or are in kindergarten, the ceremony is held as part of the Simchat Torah celebration.

This is a lovely and meaningful ceremony for children and families alike. A large talit (prayer shawl) is held over the students while they sing a song or recite the Sh'ma (the declaration of Jewish faith). Our preschoolers and our new primary-grade religious school students are honored to lead one of the procession with the Torah scroll. The children are blessed by the clergy and are often given a certificate and a miniature Torah.
