The voices of University Synagogue’s Cantors’ Concert 2018:
Cantor Chayim Frenkel

Cantor Chayim Frenkel has served as Cantor of Kehillat Israel Reconstructionist Congregation in Pacific Palisades over the last 33 years.  Blessed with a rich, warm tenor voice and an ability to nurture others' talents, Chayim has become a driving force in the world of modern Jewish music and cantorial practice, following in the very large footsteps of his late father, Hazzan Uri Frenkel, z”l. In 1995 he had the privilege of collaborating with his best friend, Hazzan Meir Finkelstein, featuring the Liberation Oratorio commemorating the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the concentration camps performed at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles, California. This city wide event featured the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Los Angeles Master Chorale and guest starring Billy Crystal and Melissa Manchester. In 1998, Chayim served as co-chair of the Cantors Assembly's celebration in honor of the State of Israel's 50th anniversary.  He has performed at Carnegie Hall and produced a concert in New York's Central Park for they auspicious event. He and his wife Marsi have two beautiful daughters, Mandi (who lives in Israel) and Molli.
